Adapter Sleeves – A sleeveutilized for mounting of a tapered bore bearing to a straight shaft. The sleeve has a tapered 0.D.for engagement with a tapered bore bearing, and a threaded O.D. and portion for a bearing locknut.
The adapter sleeve is pulled into the tapered bearing bore by tightening the locknut. Compres-sion of the sleeve by the tapered engagement results in tightening of the slotted adapter sleeve to the straight shaft.
Adapter Assembly一An assembly consisting of the adapter sleeve, the appropriate locknut and a lockwasher or locking clamp (larger sizes utilize a locking clamp). The assembly of locking clamp type includes one threaded fastener bolt and retaining ring.
Withdrawal Sleeve一A sleeve utiized from the mounting of tapered bore bear-ings to a cylindrical shaft and to facilitate disas-sembly. The sleeve has a tapered O.D. for engagement with a tapered bore bearing and a threaded O.D. end portion for a bearing removalnut.’ The installation of a bearing with a withdrawal sleeve requires a threaded and shouldered shaft design whereby the bearing is located against a shaft shoulder and the withdrawal sleeve is forced into the space between bearing bore and shaft seat, small end first, by tightening a locknut on the threaded portion of shaft.
Part Numbering Systems – Bearing mounting accessories are grouped into series.Part numbers are applied to adapter assemblies
consisting of a sleeve plus a locknut plus a lock-washer or locking clamp. Component part num-bers are used to identify the different series of locknuts, removal nuts, lockwashers and locking clamps. Withdrawal sleeves are not identified as assemblies and have part numbers as compo-nents. Adapter sleeves do not have component partnumbers in additiontothe assemblynumbers.
Lockwashers一Made of a ferrous material that when heat treated to “full anneal” will permit a tang to be bent back without fracture
either way of the grain, on a radius equal to one-half the stock thickness.ABMA 8.1 pdf free download.
